Thüringen!

I'm going to be studying from October through January at a university in the bundesland of Thüringen. It's smack dab in the middle of the country, part of former East Germany. While I do not know for sure yet in which city I will be, I'm guessing it will be Erfurt, home to the college days of Martin Luther and this:

This, of course, is to let passers-by know that fresh beer is for sale inside! It's a custom from the Middle Ages that's continued by some modern tavern owners. I think it's a tradition worth keeping :)

Location Update: Bremen

I recently learned that for the first two months of my adventures in Deutschland I will be traipsing around the city of Bremen:

I didn't know anything about the city at first but after some extensive wiki-ing and googling I'm excited to learn how to better sprechen Deutsch there. Bremen is the tenth largest city in Germany and sits close to the North Sea on a lovely river. From my readings it seems like a nice blend of old and new and is home to the Beck's beer factory and the largest wine celler in the world!

Now about a month and a half to go in fabulously hot n humid Baton Rouge...
